Napper People

Napper Architects is an Employee Owned Trust (EOT), our success is based on our people, they are our greatest asset and we continue to invest, nurture and support their development. The culture and character of Napper is a product of the highly motivated staff, the studio environment and the legacy of providing seven decades of new ideas.

Meet the Directors

The Directors are supported by a multi-talented professional workforce of fully qualified Architects, BIM champions, technicians and support staff.

Graeme Dodd

Managing Director – BA (Hons) BArch (Hons) SCA RIBA ARB

Since joining Napper, Graeme has been responsible for the design and delivery of many of its high profile projects. As Managing Director he oversees the continued growth of the practice and ensures it meets its mission and objectives, whilst still maintaining the role of a practising Architect.

Graeme also oversees the management of resources and contract delivery within the practice, acting as client interface for major projects. In this role he maintains full dialogue with the project delivery team, often as Lead Consultant in the Design Team. This reflects the Napper belief that experienced staff should be involved in all stages of the design delivery in order that the client’s needs are fully met.

Graeme is an RIBA registered Specialist Conservation Architect and a member of the National Assessment Panel for the RIBA Conservation Register.

“We actively encourage our Clients, staff and partners to embrace a collaborative approach to the design of their projects as the benefits are self evident.”

Tim Rainford
Tim Rainford

Director – BA (Hons) DipArch ARB

Tim has designed and delivered award winning projects across a broad range of sectors including commercial, educational, residential and interior design. As Director he oversees staff training and recruitment as well as reviewing business development and new market opportunities for the practice.

His design skills, holistic approach and critical analysis ensure that design opportunities are explored fully during the early stages of a project. This has played a major part in his role as Client’s Technical Advisor in the successful delivery of over £60 million of recent educational projects (where the production of costed design options have allowed OBC & FBC stages to be achieved)

“Developing the first sketch idea with the Client is the most exciting stage, when as architects we can truly add value to their project by exploring the full potential of the brief and the site.”

James has architectural and project management experience covering both the public and private sectors, particularly with the emergency services. James spent 3 seconded years acting as client in managing the delivery of 10 projects for the County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service.

James takes interest in seeking innovative design solutions to individual briefs that focus on client value, an example of this was the SES office scheme which utilised recycled shipping containers to form the fabric of the building.

James is a Certified Passive House Consultant.

“We firmly believe that each project should be an authentic responsive solution to the brief. It is for this reason that we put so much energy in ensuring that we have absolute client focus to develop a unique design.”
