Alnwick Tree House

Alnwick, NE66 1YU

Napper Architects were commissioned on behalf of Her Grace the Duchess of Northumberland to design a treehouse that would provide a unique treetop experience to the Garden visitors and provide facilities for education, playing, dining & shopping.

The Treehouse is held up by clusters of engineered Douglas fir raking struts supporting a two tier restaurant on a timber deck within a stand of mature lime trees. Whilst most of the buildings are supported of this raking structure the interpretation pod is directly supported off the largest of the Lime Trees. This uses a helical run of stainless steel pins in order that the load can be transferred to the tree without stunting the tree growth.

It accommodates a 116 cover restaurant, a separate resource area, a bar and open deck serving the high level adventure playground walkways and facilities.
