North Shields Transport Hub wins three awards at the IStructE Awards 2023

We’re delighted that North Shields Transport Hub, for client North Tyneside Council, has picked up three awards at the Institution of Structural Engineers (Northern Counties) Awards 2023: Winner Large Project Award, Winner Zero Carbon Award, and Winner Most Collaborative Project.

The building, constructed by Willmott Dixon, incorporates on-site energy generation through solar panels and heat pumps and is Net Carbon Zero in use, the first to be certified as such for North Tyneside Council and one of the first of its kind in the UK. As part of the design a Life Cycle Carbon Assessment was undertaken to enable embodied carbon to be reduced by 40%.

The design team, led by Napper Architects, included civil and structural consultants Fairhurst, services consultant Desco, transport and highways consultant Sanderson Associates, fire safety consultant Centurion, sustainability and low carbon consultants CBRE, landscape consultant GL Hearn and acoustic consultant Apex Acoustics.
