North Shields Transport Hub shortlisted for RICS Regional Awards 2024
The shortlist for the RICS Regional Awards 2024 has been released and we are delighted that North Shields Transport Hub is shortlisted in two categories: Public Sector and Community Benefit. The RICS expert panel will continue their judging over the next two months before announcing the winners.
The building was completed as part of North Tyneside Council’s masterplan to improve North Shields town centre and incorporates on-site energy generation through solar panels and heat pumps. It is Net Carbon Zero in use, the first to be certified as such in North Tyneside and one of the first of its kind in the UK. The as-built design achieved a 48% improvement in embodied carbon use measured against the stage 1 design.
The building was constructed by Willmott Dixon, and the design team, led by Napper Architects, included civil and structural consultants Fairhurst, services consultant Desco, transport and highways consultant Sanderson Associates, fire safety consultant Centurion, sustainability and low carbon consultants CBRE, landscape consultant GL Hearn and acoustic consultant Apex Acoustics.
