Barnard Castle Emergency Services Building shortlisted for prestigious planning award

Barnard Castle Emergency Services Building has been shortlisted in the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) North East Awards for Planning Excellence. It is one of only 10 projects, plans and policies applying for the North East’s top planning award.

The project co-locates County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service, Durham Police, North East Ambulance Service and Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue into new shared facilities, the first ‘quad station’ in the country to accommodate these four emergency services. This pioneering building is a more holistic approach to protecting the public through greater efficiency, integration and collaboration thereby improving safety and the quality of life for local people.

The RTPI North East Awards for Planning Excellence celebrate outstanding projects that demonstrate the power of planning. Entries reflect the diversity of planning achievement, whether in urban or rural areas, large or small in scale, involving new development, regeneration or conservation. Entries come from the public, private and community sectors.

The winners will be announced at RTPI North East’s Awards Dinner in Newcastle on 26 October 2018.
