National RTPI award for Excellence in Planning for Health and Wellbeing

Following the success at the regional awards earlier in the year, Napper Architects picked up the prestigious Nation RTPI award at the gala event in London on the 25th May 2018.

The successful redevelopment of the Marina and Water Sports Centre is one of the key outcomes of the planning and regeneration strategies for Seaham that have been produced over the last 20 years. It has involved the successful reclamation of the old colliery sites and put them back in economic use; the successful cleaning of the beaches and enhancement of the coastal environment; and the redevelopment of the Seaham North Dock to provide space for leisure, recreation, health and well-being activities for the local community at the shoreline.

“It is great to see the town’s greatest asset – the sea – being made into good use and enjoyed by more people. Seaham Harbour is a well thought through scheme, which is part of a long term project for the area that should help the local community improve their health and wellbeing. The planning team has used imaginative engagement and made the best use of available community resources to create a popular and well used, sustainable sports centre.”
