Planning Approved for North Shields Rubber Factory Site
31 July 2019
Napper Architects are delighted to report that planning permission has been granted for the demolition of the Rubber Factory premises on North Shields Quayside and the construction of 49 one and two bedroom apartments and a single townhouse. Design proposals provide a contemporary response to the historic riverside setting and were developed in close collaboration with JC Quay and Patrick Parsons. Extensive consultations were carried out which resolved a number of concerns raised during the planning process.
The proposals received support from planning officers who stated: “The proposed development will bring back to use a previously developed site that is now vacant, derelict and an eyesore, that will sustain, conserve and enhance the significance, appearance and character of the North Shields Fish Quay.”
The scheme is to be taken forward by Ian Stewart with project management services provided by Artis. Construction is due to proceed in early 2020 for completion mid-2021.
